Located in the heart of downtown Toronto at the corner of Yonge & Front Street in the Brookfield Place, the building is steeped in history. Initially constructed in 1885, during a time of immense prosperity and optimism in Canada’s future, the building was originally a bank. The building reflected the importance of banking in the formation of a country in much the same way that it now reflects the importance of hockey in the building of a culture. After serving as the head office of the Bank of Montreal until 1949 and then as a branch until 1982, the building was left vacant until its revival by BCE Place (now Brookfield Place) as the iconic .
